Postby Don Campau » Fri May 08, 2009 8:41 pm

It seems to be time to start listing URLs of various blogspots that offer cassette material from days gone by.If you do a blog or find an interesting one feel free to list it here.
Maybe make some notes so we can have a small idea of what to expect.

Lots of European stuff here:

Experimental, ot exclusively cassette:

Spanish language with compilatons,etc:

Yo Don,
The sound head has my tape "Rifles Aimed At The Heart" on Midas (NL) listed there.
Funny, as I had never seen the version of the cover he posted.

A few things from my camp:

I met Michael Peck at the Electro-music fest last August in Kingsport. We've been in touch
since then and I had a great time with the peck family in Feb. 09. Mike is working on a
collaboration of ours too.

note from his blog:

Over the past week I've been working on the Kuwahara project's first single Elliot's Basket, that is to be submitted for the upcoming Chaotic Underworld Noise Comp.
Kuwahara is Mike Honeycutt (Mystery Hearsay) and myself.
More info to come...

Apart from his work with Mark Mahoney, He has other projects like Echo Tomb (DnB),DYSMHA(Doom guitar drone) and
solo releases in the space/electronic style. Check him out!

After spammer attacks and general delays - the djmm player is back up
Thanks to Kevin (lwaa) for making it happen!

Enjoy!

Good to hear of those projects Mike.

here's a couple of other sites I found recently. Not only do they feature some rare cassette material but other stuff including Hal McGee's new Dictaphone series.
http://dualtrack.blogspot.com/

and this one features a lot of experimental European stuff:

and of course, one of the greatest of all blog sites, Mutant Sounds ( a real treasure chest):

Good link Jerry. Lots of good cassettes they've blogged here. Keep up the good work on your own big project.

Here's the one I came across that inspired me to attempt my own...
http://diycassettemusic.blogspot.com/ Lots of interesting music here, and in a roundabout way led me to this site!

This was the first music blog I ever found - http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/the archives have some older cassette stuff on occasion.

and here's the first post on mine that has to do with the subject of this site. http://loginwastaken.blogspot.com/2009/05/early-screamin-popeyes.html I would like to post more music from the tapes I have in the future, but I don't want to step on toes/rip anyone off and I kinda feel like a tool putting up music from bands I know next to nothing about! Hopefully joining this site and getting feedback from "the people that were there" can help me stay on the better side of the gray area of music blogging, not to mention educate me more on who's who and what's what from back in the day. Hmm, maybe this should've been a separate topic?

That's good stuff.

The first one you mention is done by Darrell Draeger of the Hermanos Guzanos, a central ca group. This is a fine site with good writing and documentation.

And of course WFMU is supreme with many fine DJs doing their thing.

And lastly, the Screamin Popeyes were a great home taping "band" by Jeff Olson. He did several tapes and I hope to find him or feature him in an article for The Living Archive.
Anybody know where he is?

Excellent entries all.

Don, the last time I talked with Jeff (I think it was right after 2000), he was on some kind of serious meds, & (really) unable to talk very much... I did hear from the daughter of Stacey Gravatt (great guitarist who played with Jeff & I on our "nEW dIRECTIONS" tape/CD), & sent her a copy of the CD in memoriam of Stacey, but she didn't know where Jeff was either. Branson, MO is the last known address I had for him.

Yes, my last contact with him was in Branson. That is disturbing news about his health. I hope he pops back up in good shape.
